UK FBA Answer · Updated 2026

What is Amazon Brand Registry in the UK and how does it affect resellers?

Short answer

Amazon Brand Registry is Amazon's programme that gives a brand owner exclusive listing control over their products on Amazon UK. For UK resellers, Brand Registry usually means: (a) the brand can block third-party sellers from listing their ASINs entirely, (b) the brand can set Minimum Advertised Price (MAP), (c) listing changes only the brand can make. About 30-40% of profitable UK FBA categories now have Brand Registry restrictions in place.

Amazon Brand Registry is the single most important compliance issue for UK Amazon FBA sellers in 2026. Misunderstanding it gets your account suspended; understanding it lets you source confidently. Here's what UK resellers actually need to know.

What Brand Registry actually is

Brand Registry (BR) is an Amazon programme brand owners enrol in to claim ownership of their listings. To enrol, the brand needs a registered trademark in the relevant marketplace — for UK, this is a UK or EU registered trademark. Once enrolled, the brand gets: (1) exclusive control over listing content (title, bullets, images, A+ content), (2) the ability to gate third-party sellers (require approval to list), (3) MAP enforcement powers, (4) priority access to Amazon's anti-counterfeit teams, (5) advanced advertising tools.

What this means for arbitrage / wholesale resellers

When you try to "Sell yours" on a Brand-Registered ASIN, you'll see one of three outcomes: (a) it works fine — you list and sell as normal; the brand isn't enforcing gating. (b) you're asked for proof of authenticity — usually 3 invoices from a brand-authorised distributor, totalling 10+ units, dated within 180 days. (c) you're blocked outright — "you cannot list this product" with no path forward. About 30-40% of profitable UK FBA categories now have category B or C in some form. Beauty (No7, MAC, Charlotte Tilbury), high-end electronics (Apple, Sonos), premium toys (Lego, certain ranges), and most premium fashion are heavily restricted. Mass-market household brands tend to be more open.

How to navigate it as an arbitrage seller

Three rules: (1) Always check restrictions BEFORE buying — the Amazon Seller app has an instant restrictions check. Better still, use SellerAmp SAS which warns you. Buying gated stock without ungating documents is the most common way new sellers wreck their account health. (2) When you ARE asked for invoices, only ever submit invoices from a brand-authorised UK distributor — not invoices from B&M, Argos, or other retail. Retail receipts will get rejected and may flag your account. (3) Some "ungating routes" you'll see online (third-party invoice services, fake invoice templates) are direct violations of Amazon's policy and get accounts permanently banned. Avoid.

How to navigate it as a wholesale seller

Wholesale is the proper response to Brand Registry. When you open a trade account directly with a UK distributor (or, even better, the brand itself), every invoice they send you IS valid ungating documentation. Brand-direct accounts give you the strongest position. The Inner Circle FBA Wholesale Masterclass walks through exactly which UK distributors carry which restricted brands and how to open trade accounts with them.

Common mistakes

(1) Buying clearance from Argos/B&M/Boots in restricted categories without checking — the receipt won't ungate you, and you can't list. The product is now stuck. (2) Submitting invoices that don't match the exact brand name on the ASIN — Amazon's ungating reviewers are strict about this. (3) Listing first and asking for ungating after — this generates an "abuse of selling privileges" flag that compounds over time and damages your account health.
